Obituary of Nina Rose Derman

Nina A Derman passed away peacefully on December 24th ,2021 at the age of 98.   

She was born in Bridgeport Ct  on October 20th, 1923. The youngest of 4 siblings she lost her Dad at the age of 5 and was raised by her mother Anna Albrecht. Together with her mother and sister Dorothy they ran a hair parlor business out of their family home. At age 20, she married Attorney Samuel C Derman and resided in Fairfield and Bridgeport until they retired to Boynton Beach Florida.

 

While raising her family she pursued her love for acting  and singing with The Polka Dot Playhouse in Bridgeport as well as success with other Regional theaters. She had lead roles as Mame in Auntie Mame , Plain and Fancy and many more. When she was in her mid 40’s she decided go to college graduating from the University of Bridgeport with a degree in elder care.  Never one to sit idle, she had a variety of interests . She was a superb  golfer, winning her club championship on numerous occasions, an excellent seamstress making many of her outfits, loved playing classical guitar, sang in the choir at B’nai  Israel synagogue , ran an interior decorating business and loved to entertain at her home on Lake Forest  in Connecticut.  When they relocated to Florida,  she became more involved with social causes and teaching acting classes geared toward the elderly. She will be remembered for her intellectual curiosity , psychological insight and superb culinary skills 

 

She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years as well as her sister Dorothy Frauwirth (Ben) 2 brothers Harold and David (Gloria). 

 

She is survived by her 2 children, daughter Paula Shulman of Stamford Ct and Richard Derman of Cologne, Germany , 1 granddaughter Jamie Shulman Mark ( Larry) and 2 great granddaughters Hailey and Addison of Manalapan New Jersey. In addition to several nieces and nephews. 

 

The family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise for their wonderful care and kindness . A special thanks to her private aide Claudette Lupe who cared for our Mom like her own.
