Obituary of Michael Bluestone

Michael "Mike" Morris Bluestone

Michael "Mike" Morris Bluestone, a beloved father, grandfather, and accomplished professional, passed away on June 24, 2023, at the age of 82 in Durham, NH. He was born on February 22, 1941, in Mamaroneck, NY, to Jacob (Jack) Bluestone and Ida Kaplan Bluestone.

Mike's academic journey led him to the University of Michigan, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He later pursued an MBA at Xavier University. With his expertise in engineering, Mike made significant contributions during his time at General Electric, where he earned a patent for designing smokeless combustors.

Following his work at GE, Mike joined his father in the family business, Bluestone Photoprint. Together, they specialized in enlarging photos for billboards and business signs. With the closing of the business in 1984, Mike transitioned into a program coordinator role at the Westchester County Department of Transportation, where he made valuable contributions to the department's initiatives.

Mike's life took him from his childhood in Mamaroneck, NY, to Cincinnati, OH and eventually to Larchmont, NY where he and his ex-wife raised their three daughters.  Once his children were grown, Mike relocated to Ossining, NY, where he lived for 30 years and later chose to move to Durham, New Hampshire, to be closer to his daughters and grandchildren.

He is survived by his three children, Elizabeth “Betsy” Geesin (Fred), Pamela Bluestone, and Sara Anderson (Mike). Michael’s memory will forever live on through his grandchildren Jacob and Samantha Geesin, Jeremy and Andrew Bluestone-Fhlug, and Marcus and Erin Anderson. He is also survived by his sisters, Carolyn Simon and Nancy Handwerger (Jay).

A simple graveside ceremony will be held at 2 pm on Monday, June 26, at the Westchester Jewish Center Cemetery in Greenwich, CT.  The arrangements have been thoughtfully handled by Shalom Chapel in Stamford, Connecticut. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Riverwoods Durham Senior Living Facility for their exceptional care during Mike's final years.

In memory of Mike Bluestone, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Mike's presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy as a devoted family man and accomplished professional will continue to inspire all those who knew and loved him.
